I did not know whether I was going to get into Landman, but Billy Bob Thornton can do no wrong in my eyes. At least when it comes to acting. I am not appointing the man guardian of my finances or letting him perform surgery on my vagina. I am simply saying that if Billy Bob shows up looking exhausted and starts angrily explaining an industry I know nothing about, I will listen.

Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris in a white shirt and cowboy hat, leaning on the open door of a pickup truck with a pumpjack behind him against a hazy West Texas sunset.

It takes an episode or two before the show properly hits. At first, I was standing outside its little West Texas oil party wondering whether I wanted to go inside or call the fire department. Then the characters clicked, the drama started flowing, and suddenly I was waist-deep in oil deals, family dysfunction, rich people behaving like escaped zoo animals, and Billy Bob trying to put out seventeen metaphorical fires with one cigarette.

Billy Bob Thornton carries the entire production like a man hauling a fifty-pound bag of everybody else's bullshit. His character, Tommy Norris, is constantly surrounded by crises, egos, dangerous people, and relatives who seem determined to turn his blood pressure into a space program. Thornton makes every irritated pause and exhausted stare feel like a full monologue titled "I Am Surrounded by Fucking Idiots."

An oil well fully ablaze, a huge column of orange flame and black smoke pouring off a derrick while tiny figures stand at its base.

By Season 2, the show had me completely. I flew through it and then experienced the special streaming-era punishment of reaching the end and discovering that my reward was waiting. Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman for Season 3, but as of September 10, 2026, it still had not announced a release date. That delay is confirmed by Paramount+. GIVE IT TO ME. I HAVE ALREADY SHOWN YOU MY CREDIT CARD.

Eight out of ten. Landman needs a little time to warm up, but once it gets pumping, the damn thing moves. Billy Bob remains incapable of disappointing me as an actor, Season 2 disappeared down my throat like television cocaine, and now I am rattling the bars of Paramount's cage demanding another shipment.
