Silly, filthy, surprisingly charming, and far funnier than its absurd title prepared me for.

Comedy

I have no idea why I picked Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass. Well, that is dishonest. I read the bio:

Small-town Kansas hairdresser Gail Daughtry's fiancé uses his celebrity sex pass on Jennifer Aniston, prompting Gail to travel to Los Angeles with her friend Otto to find her own pass, Jon Hamm, and even the score.

That is an absolutely ridiculous premise, and apparently my brain responded, "Yes, put this nonsense directly into my face." Sony's official synopsis confirms the beautifully stupid setup.

I have probably seen Zoey Deutch in something before, but she clearly did not slap my memory hard enough to leave a mark. That has now changed. She completely commits to Gail's cheerful, determined insanity and somehow keeps the character lovable while she crosses the country on a mission to fuck Jon Hamm for relationship justice. It is the sort of quest normally assigned by a horny wizard after three margaritas.

I barely knew anyone in the cast besides Jon Hamm, so I was pleasantly surprised by how fucking funny everyone was. Special props to Zoey Deutch, John Slattery, Ben Wang, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley for crushing their roles. Slattery is especially hilarious playing a pathetic, unhinged version of himself, because apparently dignity was optional and he wisely left his in the trailer.

The movie definitely has its moments. Not every joke lands directly on the clitoris, but enough of them do to keep the whole deranged trip moving. It throws celebrity cameos, assassins, Hollywood bullshit, sexual revenge, and Wizard of Oz energy into one cinematic blender, then hits the button marked "Fuck It, Let's See What Happens." Somehow, the resulting smoothie is much tastier than it has any right to be.

I started this movie with no expectations and finished it knowing several actors whose names and faces I will absolutely remember now. It is silly, filthy, surprisingly charming, and far funnier than its absurd title prepared me for. Four out of five sex passes. Jon Hamm may redeem his whenever he is available.
